Alex Wagner
Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower & Reserve Affairs
Alex Wagner earned his undergraduate degree at Brown University and received his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center where he later became an assistant professor.
He worked as a reporter and policy analyst for the Arms Control Association in Washington, D.C., and also engaged in the private practice of law.
He joined the Department of Defense during President Obama’s administration as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Global Strategic Affairs. He later became Senior Advisor for Rule of Law and Detainee Policy at the Department of Defense. He was named Chief of Staff to the Secretary of the Army.
Wagner was confirmed and sworn in as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower & Reserve Affairs in June 2022.

Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Alex Wagner, recently said he has growing concerns about military families who feel they are being forced to move away from certain bases due to their LGBTQ children facing harassment and bullying in schools.
The issue, he said, is “distancing from their mission, that’s distancing from our readiness.”
Assistant Secretary Wagner said, “If servicemembers are thinking and concerned about the experience their kids are having, they’re not going to be focused on their jobs. They’re not gonna be focused on their mission.”
He added, “What I need, managing the Department of the Air Force’s personnel enterprise, is a diverse force that thinks about how to approach the hardest, toughest, most challenging national security issues, challenging issues period that this country faces, bringing them together with a single focus with a single mission.”
